It is not just the "spider witch" trope but any usage of animals as symbols and not just animals.
In between Soul eater and the stop motion film of Coraline and other works that future a "spider witch" character, why do they make that association when spiders are predators but not like a child eating witch. Also, spiders do have a role in ecosystem and not just as scary witches.
