Devil-Hunt Slash (魔人狩り, majingari; FUNimation "Genie Hunter"),also known as Demon-Hunt, is a special and advanced Soul Resonance attack for Scythe Meisters. It is the next attack in the Hunt-Slash series after the Witch-Hunt Slash and is particularly effective in killing beings up to a Devil.
Description
The Devil-Hunt Slash is an improvement on the Witch-Hunt Slash scythe attack, said to be "the witch hunt that surpasses the witch hunt.". In place of the Witch-Hunt Slash's purifying effect, the Devil-Hunt Slash carries an "Anti-Demon Wavelength" (退魔の波長, Taima no Hachō) that erases evil. As the Witch Hunt is capable of harming an immortal, it is implied that the Devil-Hunt Slash is strong enough to kill one.
With Soul Evans, this new form resembles a massive halberd-like blade, rather than a scythe. When Maka wields her father, Death Scythe, the scythe blade is replaced with two large arrow/spearheads, which can detach from the cross-staff to attack the enemy. Maka's first use of the Majin Hunt is completely different in the anime and manga. In the manga, Maka first used the Devil-Hunt Slash against the Clown, during a mission with Death the Kid.
In the anime, Maka awakens Genie Hunter against Mosquito during the battle for Brew, finishing the battle and blowing up the Bloodsucker Monster's body.[1] Afterward, Death compliments her on the ability and mentions her mother was the first to use the technique.[1] Later on Soul and Maka continue to practice using the Genie Hunter. The Genie Hunter is later used in the last battle against Medusa, in which Maka and Soul manage to use this technique to safely remove her soul from Rachel Boyd's body and erase the witch's soul.
Variations
- I-shaped Hunt (I文字狩り, Ichimonjigari; Literally meaning "Letter I Hunt"): An energy shockwave that cuts in a straight line.

Trivia
- The I in the "I-shaped Hunt" variant is pronounced in Japanese as "Ichi" meaning "One", so the I in the name is likely a reference to the Roman numeral for one.
