It is currently unknown how or why Demon Swords seem to possess such traits, but it most likely the entities are mental personifications of the unique skill the weapon inherits from the Demon Sword. This is most likely the case as the entities are exclusive only to the weapon and meister. They usually make an appearance in an attempt to take them over or vanish once they master the power.

Ragnarok is one of the only known Demon Swords alive.

A Demon Sword is a dark weapon whose power is equivalent to that of a death scytheA Demon Sword is created through the overhunting of human souls (possibly 99) and eating a witch's soul.

They are extraordinarily rare, and there is currently only one in existence, Ragnarok. Demon Swords are often affiliated to the responsibility behind the birth of Kishins.

History

Demon Swords first emerged during The Grim Times, when Meisters first began breaking the sacred rule of not feeding innocent human souls to their weapons. The first Meisters responsible were those who initially worked together under Death to maintain peace and order in the world (these Meisters were those besides the Eight Powerful Warriors). However, constant battles and bloodshed left these Meisters frightened and broken, sparking the fear of death above all else, and a number took to the overhunting of human souls for more power. Very few of these Meisters and Weapons lived much longer after the creation of their Dark Weapons and Demon Swords, presumably dying at the hand of the Meisters and Weapons who had chosen not to follow the path of the Kishin. The Demon Sword Ragnarok, is possibly the only survivor.

Trivia

  • Demon Swords are to Asura as Death scythes are to Death, being the complete opposite of Death scythes. The actual translation of "DemonSword", 悪魔の剣 (Akuma no ken), literally means "Sword of the Devil", not precisely corresponding to the actual translation. However, if the word "Demon" were to be replaced with "Kishin" (another character in Japanese for the word "Demon"/"Demon God"; 鬼神 as opposed to "悪魔"), the translation of "鬼神の剣" (Kishin Sword) literally translates to "Demon Sword". Basically switching the "Death" in "Death scythe" to his opposite of "Kishin", and the "Scythe" simply to a different Weapon, "Sword".
    • The Demon Sword Ragnarok resembles a Demonic opposite of the Holy Sword Excalibur. They also share a similar, cartoonish non-weapon form style to them.
