The Eight Reaper Legions (死神八武衆, Shinigami Hachibushū) were a group of eight guards led by Death in maintaining world order. They're the predecessors of the Death Scythes.[3][4]
History[]
Eight hundred years ago and after the creation of the demon weapons by Arachne Gorgon, the Eight Shinigami Legions were active.[5][6] Serving under Death, these weapon and meisters collected souls alongside the death god while disallowing the hunting of those not on Death's list.[7]
Eventually, the group came into conflict with the witch faction refereed to as "Witches in the East". However, Asura had ended up wiping out the entire faction himself, a fact that was later reported to Death and other warlords by an unknown member of the group.[2]
In a quest for power due to being terrified of death, Asura later began secretly feeding his weapon partner the souls of good people. In the end, he succeeded and became the first known kishin in history.[7] Confronting the traitorous warlord, Asura battled Death and was not only defeated but sealed away in a bag made of his own skin containing his soul and madness underneath the land that would become Death City.[2]
Overview[]
Like their successor, Death Weapon Meister Academy, they hunted the souls of evil people to protect the world and prevent the uprising of a kishin and kept a consistent rule throughout their tenure: the souls of innocent people were not allowed to be hunted.[4]
The group consisted most of powerful beings known as the Great Old Ones, whose madness wavelength pull men and women into madness from their very existence.[8] Although members of the group were renown (i.e Eibon & Excalibur), the strongest and best of the warlords of the squad was said to be Asura.[2]
