Death the Kid shows up for his first day at Death Weapon Meister Academy, and Black Star and Soul decide to welcome him with closed fists instead of open arms.

The New Student – Kid's First Day at the Academy, Will It Be an Entrance to Remember? is the sixth episode of the anime Soul Eater. It is adapted from Chapter 3 of the Soul Eater manga.

Featured AppearancesEdit

Gallows MansionEdit

Due to Death the Kid's OCD, he, Liz Thompson, and Patty Thompson leave for their first day of classes at Death Weapon Meister Academy three hours late.

Class Crescent Moon, Death Weapon Meister AcademyEdit

Franken Stein begins his day of teaching with a vivisection. When Maka Albarn alerts her teacher that this is one of many vivisections he has performed in class, Stein notes that his subject today is unique, as this particular cuckoo that he will slice is an endangered species, which upsets his students.

Stein is then distracted by noting that Soul Eater and Black☆Star are absent. Maka explains the two are again skipping class. Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, clearly unhappy, remembers Black☆Star apologizing to her, and informing her that he will be Soul's meister from then on. When Maka Albarn sarcastically suggests the two boys would be ideal partners due to their foolishness, Tsubaki grabs Maka by her collar, shaking her and shouting her disagreement. Stein interrupts to announce that they will have a new classmate, namely Death's own son.

Front Entrance, Death Weapon Meister AcademyEdit

Outside the school's entrance, Black Star and Soul skip class in order to meet Kid, and end up missing another one of Stein's dissections.

When Kid finally arrives at school, Black Star, while giving Kid one of his speeches, breaks one of the red spikes on the school building, thus ruining its symmetry. Kid becomes angry at this, and Black Star, Soul, and Kid, along with Liz and Patty, begin battling in front of the school's entrance.

Class Crescent MoonEdit

Meanwhile, students in Stein's class hear the fight, and inform Stein. Maka informs Stein that a teacher must be present for the fight to continue; thus, the teacher gives up today's vivisection to referee this fight, to the relief of the cuckoo.

Front EntranceEdit

Stein brings Maka and Tsubaki with him to observe the duel. As a special lesson, Stein has Maka look at Kid and the Thompson sister's wavelengths. Maka determines that their soul wavelengths that their connection between the three of them are strong and stable, despite how difficult it is to sync the wavelengths of two weapons at once. She concludes that Liz and Patty's adoration for Kid is what allows them to sync their wavelengths. Stein goes on to say that Liz and Patty grew up on the streets, and that their lives were much harder before they met Kid. He also states that the partnership works for Kid as well, since the sisters laid back attitudes help quiet Kid's neurotic tendencies.

Not getting anywhere by attacking on their own, Black Star and Soul attempt to sync their wavelengths with their Friendship Combination, move which consists of Soul jumping into the air, changing into his Scythe form, and coming straight downwards to be caught by Black Star with his hands above his head. This, however, fails as Black Star misses the initial catch, and, as a result, he catches Soul's blade in the dead center with his head instead. Black Star then proceeded to attempt to pick up Soul, failing miserably, and harming Soul in the process by forcing in his wavelength, even though the two of their wavelengths did not match.

After their failed attempt to sync their wavelengths, they proceed to attack Kid individually. Black Star manages to catch one of Kid's legs with his belt, allowing Soul time to attack in his weapon form. This attack appears to be ineffective as well, as Kid manages to roll away from Soul, whose blade is stuck in the ground, dragging Black Star's face straight into Soul's blade. Tired of fooling around, Kid decides to use his Death Cannon, which effectively ends the battle.

After an apparent decisive defeat, Kid, unexpectedly, spits up blood, and falls over. Maka then informs those present that, during Soul's last attack, a part of Kid's bangs were chopped off, causing him to lose his symmetry. This is something that Kid didn't notice until the fight was over, and things quieted down. After Kid's collapse, Soul and Black Star declare themselves the victors, since Kid was the one bleeding. Death later arrives to take Kid home. Maka, wanting to know what Death's soul looked liked, used her Soul Perception to attempt to look at his soul. She, however, cannot see it, and determines that he might not have a soul. The episode ends with a view of Death City, with Death's soul encircling the entire city, much like a force field.

Manga and Anime DifferencesEdit

  • In Episode 6, when Kid walks out his house, the doors are seemingly automatic as they open and close on their own but in the manga it isn't that way.
  • In Episode 6, numerous DWMA students are seated in Class Crescent Room, many for their first appearance in the anime: Ox Ford, Harvar D. Éclair, Kim Diehl, Kilik Rung, Pot of Fire and Pot of Thunder, and Hero. These characters do not appear in the corresponding manga chapter and appear much later in the manga.
  • In the manga, when Kid asks Liz and Patty to transform into guns, Liz comments that she hasn't been a fight since the streets but in the anime she says that they've done nothing but fight since they've got off the streets and that she could use a break.
  • In the manga, when Black☆Star and Soul are revealed to be fighting Death the Kid on campus, Maka tells Dr. Stein that more than one staff member must be there to deal with it but in the anime Maka specifically states that a professor must deal with it.
  • In the manga, when Black☆Star is knocked into Soul in his Demon Scythe form, Black☆Star kisses his blade. This kiss is not included in Episode 6.
  • Black Needle Wavelength is debuted in this episode, however the wavelength is not included in the Manga.

  • In the Funimation English dub, additional performances are provided by Z. Charles Bolton and Joel McDonald. Bolton is the ADR director for the English dubs of both Soul Eater and Soul Eater NOT! He is also the English voice of Hero. McDonald is also the English voice of Kilik Rung.
