Plot[]

At Atsushi-Ya, the narrator Usher is still fixated on losing Kodansha Manga Award and having this "stupid pub."

Usher stands outside with the bird flying above him and the sword and the cat standing next to him, as he prepares to perform black magic. He reads from a book: "Battalion! Battalion! Romero! Fulci! Hooper! Hooper! Romero! Fulci!"

The tombstones next to Atsushi-Ya vibrate as a hand emerges through the ground before Rat leaps up, resurrected. He then grabs the sword and smashes it against a tombstone, shattering it into pieces. Tonogai and Kazukimaru, now also resurrected, emerge and pull down the cat to their death.

Usher stares shocked. He then says one word: "Zombies." New tombstones are placed for the sword and the cat, while Rat is still leaping joyously.

Trivia[]

  • Usher's Black Magic incantation alludes to numerous horror films and their directors:
    • George Romero, Night of the Living Dead (1968)[1]
    • Lucio Fulci, The Beyond (1981)[1]
    • Tobe Hooper, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)[1]
    • Dan O'Bannon, The Return of the LIving Dead (1985), released in Japan under the title Battalion.[1]
  • While Usher's Black Magic incantation alludes to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, another allusion appears with the character of Texas Mask, a serial killer wielding a chainsaw in Soul Eater Not!
  • Usher's Black Magic has similarities to necromancy, both options for resurrecting the dead. While Black Magic allowed him to resurrect Rat and others as zombies, in Soul Eater, there is no confirmation at this time that necromancy is the process used by Franken Stein to create a zombie such as Sid Barrett.
