Witches (魔女, Majo) are a typically female race capable of manipulating magic.[2][3]
Overview[]
Characteristics[]
Physically, witches vary in looks though appear no more different than to a human. However, they can sometimes adopt appearance, features, and mannerisms befitting their animal theme.[4] They also possess souls of a notable purple hue usually[5] though it has been shown the color of a witch's soul can vary (i.e Shaula Gorgon).[6]
Racial Strife[]
For centuries, both witches and humanity (notably the Witch Order and the DWMA) have had a longstanding mutual enmity against one another for reasons mostly unexplained. Because of this strife, most witches resort to some manner of hiding and concealing their past to protect themselves.[7]
Witch Hunting[]
Occasionally, evil witches are hunted by members of Death Weapon Meister Academy, notably by it's intelligence branch.[7] In order for the academy to do so, physical evidence must be obtained for Lord Death to approve a warrant for her capture and/or demise.[8] Upon death, some witches' soul are eaten by specific magic weapons in order to turn them into death scythes.[5]
Types of Witches[]
- Necromancer (死霊使い, Nekuromansā; also "Necromatic Witch"): A witch who specializes in reviving the dead as a mummy or evil spirit.[9]
- Close-Range Witch (近距離型魔女, Kinkyori-Gata Majo): Witches capable of fighting in close combat.[10]
- Little Witch (チビ魔女, Chibi Majo): A young and inexperience witch with underdeveloped magical power.[11]

Special Abilities[]
Although witches come possess breadth in abilities, all witches possess some of the same abilities, potential, and powers among one another:
- Magic (魔法, Mahō): Most commonly, witches are known to employ and manipulate this sort of energy with various offensive, defensive, and collaborative uses.[5]
- Transformation (変身, Henshin): Witches are able to usually transform themselves into their given animal theme, often employing Transformation Magic to do so.[1]
- Magical Sense: Witches are capable of sensing the magical power of other, fellow witches.[12]
- Longevity: Witches are capable of living for more than around eight centuries and retain youth.[13]
